Workshops

We offer a variety of workshops that can be selected on their own or multiple can be selected together to build a programme. All our sessions are interactive and engaging using a variety of delivery methods.

The Individual Journey

This focuses on a person’s journey and what makes them unique. Encompassing minor and major events. We will look at how these events contribute to who they are today. The workshop also looks at the age-old argument of nature vs nurture and gets the participant to critically analyse this.

 Understanding the criminal justice system

A large number of young people and people who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system do not always understand the system or know the realities of crime. This workshop provides an understanding of the criminal justice system from arrest, prison and disclosing a criminal record. The workshop analyses a criminal case focusing on an individual who was convicted at Crown Court. Insight is provided by a criminal law firm.

Goal Setting

This workshop challenges participants to assess their passions and dreams. We look at the why behind the dream and use that as the motivating factor for setting goals. We help participants set realistic short-term and long-term goals. We know as with most things in life there may be obstacles or barriers to reaching these goals. We encourage the individuals to pre-empt this and find potential solutions to these problems.

Child Sexual Exploitation & Child Criminal Exploitation

This breaks down CSE & CCE and the differences between them. We look at it from the perspective of 3 young people from different walks of life. We discuss the signs to look out for and discuss in great depth how to get help and support.

Healthy Relationships

This workshop focuses on the different relationships that an individual has and dissects the different components that contribute to a healthy relationship. We also analyse unhealthy relationships and how to spot the signs and get support.

Harmful Sexual Behaviour

We follow the story of Jake who has repeatedly pushed the boundaries concerning sexual behaviour and now he is at risk of entering the criminal justice system. This workshop analyses Jake’s behaviours and discusses in depth the steps Jake needs to take to turn his life around.

Misogyny

This workshop looks at Misogyny from the perspective of two childhood friends who have gone down different paths. One chooses to follow in the footsteps of a known worldwide misogynist while the other has to figure out how he can support his friend and help change his warped view.

Self-Esteem & Body Positivity

We look at the impact social media can have on the self-esteem of young people. We look at body dysmorphia and the pressure that unrealistic goals can have on an individual’s life. This workshop champions body positivity and teaches the strength of positive affirmation.

Consent

This workshop takes the time to discuss and break down a sensitive topic using a variety of different stories and settings. We look at the definition and importance of consent and empower our young people.

‘Own It’ Programme

Own it, is a programme created by ICAAN that can be delivered as an intensive (15 week programme), moderate (6 week) or low-intensity (4-week) programme that covers a variety of topics.

Identity is again at the crux of this programme and will feed into all facets of the programme delivery. This is why we start from a place of understanding how difficult it may be for individuals to come to terms with who they are and where they fit within society.

The programme’s mission is to enable participants to be confident irrespective of their circumstances and ultimately become the very best versions of themselves.

As part of the sessions, we cover relationships, conflict resolution, emotions, offence analysis and goal setting to name a few. The programme was formulated using research methods and theories.

Over the course of the sessions, we aim to help individuals understand that everyone’s journey in life is different and equip them with practical skills that help them navigate their own to confidently exit the justice system or stop them entering it.

We offer three variations to the programme.

  • 15 week intensive programme (Available in custody and community)

  • 6 week moderate programme (Available in custody and community)

  • 4 week Short Programme (Available in custody and community)

Individuals who have completed the programme have the option to be put forward for other services applicable to them.

Book Programme

A productive way for an individual to serve their time is by reading books and capturing their thoughts and lessons. This also expands their knowledge on a variety of topics and offers a sense of creativity. A new book will be nominated every three months and this will include guided study. We also provide books upon request where possible.

There is also an option for a 8-week in-person book club. This gives the option to read and discuss chapters of the book on a weekly basis as well as cover important themes that arise from the book and how they relate and differ to the participants lives.

Guided studies are available for a number of books, these are available upon request.

Other Services Available

  • 1:1 Mentoring

We do not believe that one size fits all, instead we treat people as individuals and work holistically in creating bespoke journey plans.

These journey plans will take into consideration the individual circumstances and we will work closely to achieve specific goals and targets. Our 1-to-1 mentoring will be delivered face to face, via emails, letters and telephone calls.

  • Through The Gate

At ICAAN we believe that solid meaningful relationships are essential to facilitating change. We work with individuals who have engaged in the mentoring or Ireti project once they are released from prison. Consistency and continuity is vital.

This involves attending important meetings, helping to signpost to specialist organisations and a listening ear. This will also involve the option to speak with different career mentors to get a taster for what they are interested in.

  • Training

Providing training to professionals who work with young people and those who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system.

Gang – Understanding, History & Evolution

This training looks closely at the history of gangs, structure and how they have evolved in the past decade. It also provides learners with understanding of the people they work and interact with on a daily basis. We believe understanding the individuals we work with is fundamental to creating a relationship that can facilitate change.
